French Opening at Classical:NEXT 2018

FOCUS – Who Said The French Were Hard To Access? Amongst music professionals the French scene is often perceived as especially hard to access. Classical:NEXT 2018 will ask how true this prejudice actually is, inviting French world class artists to kick off the biggest art music meeting worldwide with a ‘What The France!?’ opening concert while high profile speakers from e.g. IRCAM, and the Philharmonie de Paris will speak at the four days of international conferences.

The aim of this focus, which includes a strong presence of French companies at the stand expo of Classical:NEXT, is to paint a broad picture of the current state of classical in France, and help the more than 1,200 expected delegates from 40 countries to understand and access the French music scene better. The French scene opens its arms, welcoming all delegates to team up, to collaborate and to exchange ideas. The ‘What The France!?’ programme is realised in cooperation with various key players of the French classical music scene under the lead of Le Bureau Export (the French music export office).

As the schedule of the seventh edition of Classical:NEXT is set, organizers Piranha Arts and de Doelen concert hall have announced further additions to the jury-selected international conference with sessions and workshops on digital know-how for classical music professionals, a presentation of the recently launched European Agenda for Music and a panel attendance of ethnomusicologist Dr. Ahmad Naser Sarmast, founder of the Afghanistan National Institute of Music and its Youth Orchestra.
